Thomas Popma

After learning essential skills at RTL at a young age, Thomas Popma joined Viacom in 2002 when he became responsible for the channel operations department for the Benelux region. There, over the course of 10 years, the scope increased from a handful of channels to a total of 55 today, going out across the globe, mainly under the MTV, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central brandnames.

His biggest achievement in this capacity has been his leading role in setting up a new broadcast platform for Viacom’s international channels. By introducing IT hardware, media sharing abilities, and standardized processes, average channel running costs were cut by over 50%. This did not go unnoticed by Viacom’s senior management, and became the platform of choice for over 100 channels now.

Over the years, Thomas has gained a deep understanding of what it takes to publish media. However, it is business needs and viewer experience that drive him, ensuring that whatever is done in the field of operations or technology, contributes to a healthier business and enhanced viewer experience.
