Maria Ingold

Maria Ingold is Head of Technology for FilmFlex Movies, jointly owned by Sony and Disney.  With only 20 staff, FilmFlex is the largest VOD movies service in Europe.

FilmFlex launched Virgin Media cable’s pay-by-transaction on-demand film service in 2005.  In 2010 FilmFlex launched its white label broadband VOD film service which powers Virgin Media Online Movies, Film4oD and in 2011, hmv on-demand.  FilmFlex reaches 3.8M homes with around 1M rentals per month.

Maria sets FilmFlex’s technical strategy and architects its technical solutions. At a fraction of the cost and resource of other major VOD services, Maria architected and delivered FilmFlex’s full infrastructure - to ingest, manage and distribute content from over 30 suppliers to multiple platforms.  She has also helped launch 3D onto cable and the white label broadband VOD service.

As an expert in delivering premium pay on-demand content, Maria is an advocate for security, simplicity and financial viability – i.e. if premium content is to be delivered to more platforms, those platforms have to be secure enough for the studios, simple to both to use and develop for (by adopting key standards) and the solution must be cost effective for all parties.

Mixing a background in Computer Science and Fine Art, Maria has 20 years of experience across interactive multimedia, games, TV and film. She is also a film judge for BAFTA, an artist and is publishing a novel.
