Glen Killane is the Managing Director of RTÉ Television – Ireland’s national public service broadcaster. He oversees policy and content across 6 Television channels, as well as being an Executive Board member of RTÉ. Appointed in June 2010, one of Glen’s key strategic concentrations is the integration of digital content with our core Television offering. The focus is driven by the underlying commitment to delivering high-quality public service content to audiences wherever, whenever and wherever they choose to interact with it.
Glen was born in Dublin and attended Trinity College before taking a Masters in Journalism at DCU. He trained as a TV producer / director with the BBC and later helped establish the Live Football production arm of ITV Digital in London, as Editor of Live Football.
At RTÉ, he has held positions as Series Editor on many key prime time titles in the Sports genre, and was appointed Head of RTÉ Sport in 2004 and Group Head of Sport in 2006, a position he held until 2010. As Head of TV Sport Glen Killane has been central to major rights contracts for GAA, Champions League, FAI, Six Nations, Magners League and UEFA negotiations. He has helped establish key agreements both for RTÉ and for the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) on a multi-platform basis.
